Don't do a bridge deal. You don't want a PK Subban situation on your hands. Pay him solid money now with a good term so you don't have to pay him Letang money later.

He's not getting traded, he won't get offer-sheeted & in the end, the Blues will sign him either short or long term & he's not going anywhere for the next 5 to 10yrs.

Franchise d-men don't fall off trees & he fits into that category. So all of you who start talking about him leaving the Blues will be very disappointed.

And IF there were a trade, well any team wanting him had better be ready to overpay BIG TIME - simple as that.

How much do you think PK asks for on his next deal?

8 years at $7.5-$8?

What's that? He makes $2.875 for 2 years and then will likely sign an eight year $48 million contract when this was done at $6 million per season.

So take a look at 2 contracts and we're talking a 10 year $53.75 million deal or $5.375 per season. Most people thought he'd sign for $5.0 to $5.5 long term so it is right where he would have been anyway

He can ask for whatever he wants but I doubt management offers more than the $6.0 to $6.5 that Price is making.

It's an absolute joke that teams do this with their "Best Player"... People rag on the Flyers for alot of things but you dont see this happening there! They get their key players signed and let the guy's they really dont want, walk

Don't get why the Avs don't offer up a big contract to him. It'd be a win-win. They'd either get the allstar caliber defenseman they've been missing for the past decade, or they financially screw a division rival that they're unlikely to trade with in the future anyways. As far as absorbing the $, Stastny and O'Reilly wouldn't exactly be missed at this point, especially with whatever'd be coming back in exchange (Could carry both through the season to trade at max-value/appropriate time as well). In a round about sense, after about a year's time, they'd wind up shaving about 4m off payroll and would probably only lose a couple of picks in the process...

The Avs only have 1.4 mil more in Cap Space than the Blues so it'd doubtful they have the means to blow the Blues out of the water... and even if that works, you can kiss Landeskog goodbye next off season. The Blues have shown they bite back on offer sheets (even if the target is misguided).

You mean like the time they locked up their core players then traded them away only to see them reunite and win a cup in LA

If that's as far as your management would be willing to go, then Habs fans should start trading in those Subban jerseys now. Norris winners don't sign at discounts these days.

Over time, there has been a lot of ink wasted on writing about RFA offers.

How many offers have actually been made?

When those few offers have been made, how many have actually resulted in the player changing teams? If a team decides not to match it is likely because they prefer the compensation over the player.

The new CBA makes it even harder by eliminating front end or bonus incentives by requiring that the highest contract year can only be 10% more than the lowest contract year. So, on a $6m annual cap hit, I think it means, you have the first year at $6.3m and the last year at $5.7m. Not much opportunity for anyone looking for some financial leverage. The only way is to over pay.

Wasn't the same thing said when Habs were offering under $3.0 a year. I remember these boards rampant with talk about how no way he signs for less than $5 million even on a short term deal.

Every team has their own books. IMO if PK doesn;t sign for what is being offered then eventually he will simply be dealt. That simple.

This is why teams part with plaeyrs all the time.If Karlsson signs for $6.5 then why on earth would PK need to be signed for $8 million?

^^^ This ^^^

Minus the last sentence. There's going to be no trade involving Pietrangelo. Blues hold all the cards. Pietrangelo's camp looked for an offer sheet. Alas, none came.

Sad but you are probably right. I would think Montreal would prefer something around $7 mil for 6 years.

Norris trophy winners also don't normally have to only play in 42 games.

Let's see how Subban does in a full season before talking about him as the next Bobby Orr.

Yes the blues have the upper hand now but of they only sign him until he's an UFA it wouldn't be shocking to see him tell the team "remember that time when I wanted to stay here for many years and you said no cause I do" and then depart. If I was managing the situation I'd lock him up for the long term especially because of what was mentioned in the article about him being such a crucial part of that organization.

The Blues cleared out cap space for him by trading Perron. He'll get what he wants.

I laugh when people say it's so simple. Contracts aren't just I'll give you this for that many years. There's a lot of things to workout.

He's not going anywhere.
